Arthrosamid injections
What is Arthrosamid®?
Arthrosamid® is a newer injectable treatment consisting of a non-biodegradable hydrogel. The first human use for knee arthritis took place in Denmark, where it has been implanted for over 14 years.
It may be suitable for patients who are considered too young for knee replacement, those who wish to explore all available options before committing to joint replacement or patients who are medically unfit for knee replacement surgery.
Arthrosamid® integrates permanently with the tissue lining the knee joint, thickening it to form a barrier. This unique characteristic can lead to significant pain reduction over a longer period following a single treatment.
Benefits
- Longer-lasting effect compared to other injections
- Can significantly reduce pain and improve function
- Single injection treatment
- Non-surgical option
Limitations
- Relatively new compared to traditional injections
- Not suitable for all patients
- Does not reverse arthritis or repair cartilage
